Income generation projects are about helping people to help themselves and bringing empowerment. In environments of extreme poverty and very high unemployment, the opportunities for people to take initiatives can seem very limited or even non-existent.
By supporting our African partners and helping with the teaching of new skills and technology, we can see individuals, families and even whole communities begin to experience transformation in their circumstances.
Examples of these are bead and jewellery making projects which have been started to enable women to generate an income to support their families.
Other individuals have learned how to make furniture and useful items using APT (Appropriate Paper-Based Technology). Some have continued to develop their skills and knowledge and are now supplementing their income with orders for things such as tables and chairs, stools, bookshelves and sets of drawers.
